RACE TO THE SKY SLED DOG RACE (Lincoln)

Friday, February 13 – Tuesday, February 17, 2015

The Race to the Sky will have its official kick-off on Friday Noon-3 p.m., starting with the 350 Mile Vet Check in Helena.

Saturday is the official start at Camp Rimini and Elk Park Finish. Camp Rimini was a former War Dog Training and Reception Center near Helena used to train sled dogs for military operations during World War II. 10:00am is the Official Start of 350 Mile Race at Camp Rimini, Hwy. 12, turn on Rimini Road past Moose Creek Campground. 3–4 p.m. is the 100 Mile Vet Check, 367 Lowland Road (Exit 138), Elk Park (Pasquinzo property). 4– 9 p.m., teams arrive at Exit 138, 367 Lowland Road, Elk Park, (Pasquinzo property), finish of first leg of race (350 mile teams).

On Sunday, the continuous teams and 100 mile teams start the 350 Mile Race to the Sky at Hi-Country Snack Foods in Lincoln at 2 p.m. Watch the teams start their day and night journies through the mountains and valleys of Montana. Also on Sunday is the start of the 100 mile Junior Race to the Sky and a 100 mile race adult musher’s.

For the next couple of days teams travel to the White Tail Ranch near Ovando, the Seeley Lake Community Center in Seeley Lake, and making a wilderness checkpoint coming back to Seeley Lake. The finish is at Hi-Country Snack Foods near Lincoln and is predicted sometime Tuesday early evening. Go to the website for times during the race and for up to the minute information.

Race to the Sky is one of the qualifying races prior to the Alaskan Iditarod. In years past, anywhere from 22 to 35 teams have begun this 350-mile race through the Montana backcountry.

Race to the Sky Sled Dog Race events will take place in Helena, Butte, Camp Rimini, Lincoln, White Tail Ranch near Ovando, Seeley Lake, back to Hi-Country Snack Foods in Lincoln for the finish and in Lincoln for the awards ceremony.
